The new song [Utakata] for M3 2014 Fall is now also available in PCM version!
This is a FLAC version of the master DSD 56MHz data converted to PCM using AudioGate3.

The music is a string quartet with an oriental feel.
I composed this piece with the theme of “fragility".
You can enjoy the tension and the live feeling of the DSD recording (no editing).

The audio format is FLAC (96kHz/24bit) with lossless compression.
In addition to the jacket image, the circle name and song title are recorded as tag information.

The attached memo introduces free software that can be played on a PC.

[Commentary on the production process]
Recorded with two QTC50’s for overheads and two BLUE Kiwi’s for ambience.
Two DA-3000 recorders were used in cascade for a total of four channels.

The 4-channel sound source was set up on an analog console, mixed, and DSD recorded on the master MR-2000S.
All EQ and Comp were done with analog equipment, except for the reverb, which was a vintage digital reverb.
The result is a highly pure sound source with a high level of compatibility between raw texture and dynamics and a moderate room resonance.

DSD’s rich analog-like sound is converted to PCM, which adds (for better or worse) the unique sound characteristics of PCM.
The PCM version has been given a unique finish to take advantage of this, and is not just a simple DSD to PCM conversion, but an aggressive sound source.
